Mini digital sound level noise decibel monitor meter db

The CEM DT-85A is possibly the smallest sound meter around. This sturdy hand held sound meter is ideal for quick sound level checks in the workplace, school, office, traffic and within the home. NEW With 12 months warranty.
Note: Many sellers are selling the C weighting version of this sound meter. You should check whether you require A or C weighting. (See below)
I see Maplin offer the C weighted, what is the difference?

A: The most common weighting in noise measurement is A-Weighting. The meter, like the human ear, effectively cuts off the lower and higher frequencies that the average person cannot hear.
C-Weighting is also available on many sound level meters, but is generally used for Peak measurements and low frequency measurement and generally not workplace noise measurements.

Q - My neighbours have complained about noise from my sons guitar, is this item suitable?
A - This meter will measure upto 100 db's which is the equivillent of a jack hammer at close range, if you are measuring the sound level from your neighbours house then I can't see it being more than 100 db's.

Q - Why start at 35dB only?
I wish to measure the background noise in a very quiet location.
A - For background noise starting at 35db is more than enough, anything less than 35 is really quiet and difficult for the human ear to hear.

Q - Is this meter fully calibrated?
A - The meter is calibrated by the manufacturer but a certificate is not supplied
