Class III Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC) provide the highest level of personnel, product, and environmental protection from hazardous biological agents. They are defined as gas-tight chambers with a sealed viewing window. Manipulation of hazardous materials is performed through sealed gloves. Personnel protection is provided by having a physical barrier between the laboratorian and their work at all times and by an internal negative pressure differential where any leaks would leak into the cabinet and away from the user. Product protection is provided by inlet HEPA filtration and environmental protection is assured by double HEPA filtration and exhaust to the outdoors.
