GCI VP6 Hand-held Personal Communications Unit data collection terminal (handheld)
The Granite Communications VP6 is a hand-held personal communications unit featuring a laser scanner and a pen-based touch pad.
The VP6 has a 4-inch diagonal LCD touch-screen which is back lit and easy to read.The screens 120 x 96 pixel matrix is capable of displaying a maximum of 12 lines by 30 characters.
The VP-6 digitizer is pressure sensitive and does not require an active pen. You can operate it either with your finger or with a stylus. The VP6 has a sturdy housing made of impact resistant thermoplastic which lets the VideoPad survive a 4-foot drop.
This item was remarketed by IBM as part of their mobile tacking solution called "TrackTell".
With this new solution, called TrackTell, drivers and delivery personnel can use the VideoPad to enter and transfer data and perform crucial communications functions - all from the road.
Data entry can be done either manually or through the VideoPad's built-in bar code scanner, and data transfer can be accomplished either from a docking station, or wirelessly via the VideoPad's RAM radio capability or infrared port. The VideoPad also features a Global Positioning System location device, which gives delivery personnel the ability to instantly identify their location for security/emergency situations.
TrackTell also enables drivers and delivery personnel who are in- transit to conduct two-way messaging and audit routes via time and date stamps and optional signature acknowledgments. They can also perform various inventory re-stocking functions such as transferring data directly into a company's ordering system and obtaining inventory information and reports from corporate databases.
