Vintage lathe 3-jaw chuck
Here is a lathe tailpiece 3-jaw chuck of uncertain vintage. It mounted on a belt-drive lathe owned by my grandfather, a Master machinist. It measures 5 1/2" overall, and appears to have a capacity of 1/4". It opens and closes smoothly, and has surprisingly little visible wear on the jaw edges. The tapered mounting post is about 3" long, with a 1"flat on the end. I do not know, or know how to figure the taper number, but at its widest, is about 1/2" in diameter, 3/8" at the end.
