This is a truly awesome scope by HP. It has the memory depth of Lecroy 9350, the Speed of Tektronix TDS540 / TDS640 series and built with HP/Agilent quality. If nothing else the memory depth of 32k blows away my previous favorite the Tek TDS520. The Tek 2440, TDS340, TDS350, TDS360, TDS220 and TDS210 are piddling crap in front of this beast. The realtime FFT spectrum analyzer is truly an amazing thing to watch. Do not confuse this with the HP 54501A/503 which is 10 MS- 20 MS sec versus this unit with it 1 Gs. The Comparable scopes are TDS 310 320 340 350 360 380 520 620 540 and 640 also the newer TDS1000, TDS2000)
The picture you are seeing is of the scope locked on a 300.000 Mhz signal off my Agilent 8656B Synthesized Signal Generator. The scope is simultaneously showing the realtime signal and its realtime FFT spectrum. the signal is on top and the spectrum noise floor is on the bottom with a large spike at 300 mhz. . I would have killed for this scope a few years back!
The line that you see on top is the memory depth while the brighter line in the center is the currently displayed window. This scope allows you to zoom and scan without having to fiddle with delayed triggers and all that crap. You get the whole picture in a single capture and you can zooom out or zoom in to your hearts content.
