The FT232BL is the earlier version of the FT232. The FT232BL is the lead free version of the 2nd generation of FTDI s popular USB UART I.C. The FT232 not only adds extra functionality to its FT8U232AM predecessor and reduces external component count, but also maintains a high degree of pin compatibility with the original, making it easy to upgrade or cost reduce existing designs as well as increasing the potential for using the device in new application areas.
The FT232R is the latest device to be added to FT232.The FT232R is a USB to serial UART interface with optional clock generator output, and the new FTDIChip-ID security dongle feature. In addition, asynchronous and synchronous bit bang interface modes are available. USB to serial designs using the FT232R have been further simplified by fully integrating the external EEPROM, clock circuit and USB resistors onto the device.
The FT232 is available in Pb-free (RoHS compliant) compact 32-LD LQFP, 28-Lead SSOP and QFN-32 packages.
