50 Ton HYDROLAIR 4-Post Platen Press With Air Over Hydraulic Pump Model # N9257
* Manufactured By: HydrolAir
* 50 ton capacity at 3600 psi
* Pressure Plate is 18 by 24 "
* 6 to 10" ram travel-room to add temperature platens.
* set up for automated operation (sans controls)
* ~2400 lbs, 44 by 34 by 74 inches raw
Looks good used older-works fine. Press and air over hydraulic pump work fine. We squeezed some big wood timbers with over 50 tons of pressure and they did a lot of complaining but the press did not. Electricals look antiquated and we did not attempt to use or test them save for the air solenoids that enable the pump up and down motion. No heated platens came with it. There has been some minor rust etching of exposed steel parts but we did not see an operational problem. We only got an oil leak from the RAM when we ran it up too high.
HydrolAir appears to currently be owned and operated by Greenerd Press And Machine Company
NO SAFETY SHIELD COMES WITH THIS UNIT. DEPENDING ON HOW THE UNIT IS USED, A SAFETY SHIELD MAY NEED TO BE INSTALLED FOR SAFE AND LEGAL OPERATION. DEPENDING ON THE APPLICATION, THIS UNIT CAN CREATE HIGH VELOCITY SHRAPNEL THAT CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH!!!
This is an oldie but goody. The platen area is 24 by 18 inches. The opening as shown
is about 20.5 inches. Total travel is about 10 inches but the placard says not to exceed 6" from
the full down position. The basics are in place for automated operation.
Press and air over hydraulic pump work fine. We squeezed some big wood timbers with over
50 tons of pressure and they did a lot of complaining but the press did not. The solenoids that
operate the up and down functions work fine. We did not attempt to operate the electrical
system overall. It is antiquated and set up for electrically heated platen inserts. (The heated
platen inserts were long gone when we got the press-I am sure we could source heated platens
for whatever they cost but this would add to the price and delay delivery). a 115 vac power
cord and a single pole double through switch (along with a source of compressed air) is all
that is needed to operate the press.
There are position blocks and limit switches for automating the operation of this press (as well as solenoid valves that control up and down). The plumbing is also accessable for more sophisticated operation, if, for example you wanted to run a high volume low pressure pump for fast gross movement of the RAM before switching over to the slower but higher pressure of the internal air operated hydraulic pump.
The vertical gap above is about 20.5 inches.
The electrical box above has componets for electrically heated platens and automated up/down but they are antiquated and we did not attempt to use or test them.
The gauge below shows its age but works good. It needs to have the lens removed and be recalibrated.
This might be just what you need for your 50 ton press application.
