1) 2006-2007 National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) 1 Dental Decks
This is the complete collection of the 2006-2007 NBDE 1 Dental Decks. It is extremely comprehensive in all of the basic sciences (gross/dental anatomy, physiology, histology etc...). The updated versions released each year only have minor changes to the Dental Decks produced in the past and all updates/changes to the Decks can be accessed for free off of the Dental Decks website to ensure that if you are using an older version you have all of the updated information. It was used in preparation for last year's NBDE 1 and was found very helpful as a study aid in combination with the Kaplan and First Aid NBDE 1 review books. The decks come highly recommended based on the amount of detailed information presented. The only major category that the 2006-2007 NBDE 1 decks lack are the ethics section and the information covered in that section can be found for free off of the ADA website.
2) KAPLAN dentEssentials NBDE Part 1 Review (2nd edition, 2008)
This book is a fantastic study aid for the National Board Dental Examination Part 1. It has great overviews of the general principles of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, immunology, microbiology, embryology, physiology, and pathology. It also goes into specific details chapter by chapter on the various organ systems examining embryology/development, anatomy, physiology and pathology associated with each of these systems. It has excellent illustrations (very helpful for many of the various biochemistry and physiology cycles) and charts which organize the information in an easy to understand format. This book will serve as an excellent supplement to the Dental Decks and the First Aid NBDE 1 book. Use of all three study tools in preparation for the NBDE 1 exam his highly recommended.
