Whereas, refined-bleached-deodorized (RBD) coconut oil from copra-milled feedstocks, tastes and smells bland neutral, with a slight yellowish color, and very light fluid mouth-feel. Due to its chemical solvent (hexane) cleaned feedstocks, and very high heat processing, it has lost all its organic anti-oxidants and other important phyto-nutrients.
Because of this intense RBD/RB base processing (or hydrogenation), its native coconut flavor and color, and light texture are lost. What is left is essentially a vegetable fluid, and has to be further processed, by adding other ingredients as synthetic or nature - identical coloring substances (beta carotene, etc), or flavoring (buttery, etc). And eventually sold as colored coconut or white coconut popping oil.
