This is not a mystery machine, it passes power on self test, passes SPC when ran, and all internal diagnostics/self test. Operationally excellent, physically excellent. Has all 4 feet and wire front stand.
It has one option, 1F (Floppy Drive), and I was able to store a reference waveform to disk and retrieve it w/o issue; beyond that I make no promises as these are a known weak point. This is a nice TDS 640A.
The TDS6XX Family are fast samplers, in this case 2GS/s at the same time on all 4 channels. They are strictly real time oscilloscope, there is no repetitive wave form setting available beyond basic averaging. Its big claim to fame was fast single shot acquisition to full bandwidth on all or any channels at once.
If my pictures turn out looking overly yellow, this is a photo effect. In person, this scope looks as it should. The display is sharp, if it looks blurry, again, a photo effect. All is as it should be.
In the photos I show 2 channels operating with a pocket generator, and then the other two channels. The pocket generator is not included in the sale. Only the scope is included.
Take a look at the single shot rise time photos. Rise time varies by about 50ps per try per channel. I especially liked the intensified setting, which is pure sample data. Channel 4 is a larger amplitude for clarity of the signal shape on all four channels; I squished the other channels together on purpose. Look closely at the settings. Consistently, after each single shot, the waveform looked as before; just as when in real time mode. It does not have to see multiple waveforms to draw you a picture, once is enough.
There is some screen burn, my camera did not like the close-up w/o flash, not noticeable in use but worth mentioning. The default display setting are conservative on this scope and they can be turned up quite a bit from the display menu. In other words I don t think it is near death.
Will my friends confuse this scope with a brand new one (you ask )? No, it has some blemishes typical of regular lab use, no abuse. Note missing trim piece on carry handle (completely functional).
