Antique stockman wasp waist mannequin 1870 22" waist
This is a stunning complete and original antique French Stockman wasp waist mannequin ~ dress makers dummy, with original cloth covering.
In excellent condition it measures approx 60" tall (adjustable) with a 32" (81cm) chest, tiny 22" (56cm) waist and 37" hips (94cm). It has a turned ebonised wood stand which dates it to around 1870.
It has its original brass key to fix the central column in place after adjusting the height. It also has its original turned wood top and arm hole covers all in ebonised wood.
"Le Couturier, Stockman, Paris" is clearly stamped on the torso and the Stockman name is repeated on the metal key proving that it is a genuine Stockman piece and that it is not a marriage of two matched pieces between the torso and base.
There are some small tears which reveal the white padding beneath. I can forgive her the wear to the fabric as I'm sure I won't look that good at 140 years old either!
Despite the bust and hips being quite voluptuous the tiny little waist makes you wonder if the Victorian era lady could have moved or even drawn breath squeezed into this shape!
A lovely period piece of chic decoration on its own or dressed appropriately it is ideal for displaying bustiers, corsets or period costume.
