The staps will zip up inside if you don't want to use. All items are used but in good to great condition. I actually have not touch the scanner since the Texas Nascar in November of 2008, (1-1/2+ years ago) and the nicads were still charged! I let it run for 5 minutes and turn it off. The Nascar case is nice. The main center section is lined and is dual purpose, it is water tight and you can fit 2 standard 12 oz canned beverages with some ice in there but it also is cushioned enough to hold your sensitive electronics like digital video cameras.
